Mala was a famous Pakistani playback singer of Urdu and Punjabi films. Her real name was Naseem Nazli. She was born in Faisalabad. Naseem was interested in singing and music from a young age. Fortunately, her elder sister happened to be her first music teacher and Naseem learnt the essentials of music from her.
Mala was a top female singer and only the second best to Madam Noor Jehan as playback singer. She sung many super hit songs in almost two decades singing career in the 60s/70s. Prominent musician G.A. Chishti introduced her in a Punjabi film Aabroo in 1961. Her first Urdu film was Suraj Mukhi but she got breakthrough from film Mehboob. Mala faded out of the popular music scene towards the late seventies and died on March 6,1990.
